Week 47: There's Not Enough Days in the Week!

Yesterday, while I was down with a cold and had to cancel a visit to a friend's place to meet her new baby, I had too much time to think about all the things I want to do during the week and all the people I would love to catch up with... the only problem is, there is not enough days in the week to do it all! I found myself torn between wanting to do nothing, and wanting to do everything. It was a very annoying thought and eventually I just had to let it go... I cannot catch up with everybody every week and I cannot do everything. We all need a good balance in life otherwise we will go crazy.

So this week, it is just me and my little munchkin. My sister has gone home and my husband is away in Sydney for work. We have a busy week but it's a good busy week so far. I get to at least catch up with SOME people I love to catch up with, and I get to also catch up on chores at home.

Most importantly, I get to spend a lot of time with my little munchkin and give him a lot of kisses and cuddles. Gosh I love that boy so much!

Week 46: Aunty Pearly Is In Town

This week has been huge - so huge that I have to rush through this blog post so I can get ready for dinner before Micah wakes up from his afternoon nap. We are off to a family dinner at a local restaurant in Berwick to celebrate 4 birthdays in the family. Busy busy!!

My sister is of course in Melbourne this week. Everyday has been shopping shopping shopping... Sunday we had a BBQ at a friend's place. Dinner that night was Chinese takeaway. Monday we shopped at Fountain Gate and she cooked dinner. Tuesday we went into the city to have Kolo Mee at Kitchen Inn followed by Chocolate Fondue at Max Brenner. Later that night we went and had dinner at Georgio's Steak and Seafood Restaurant in Beaconsfield. Wednesday we went to Chadstone and shopped some more and caught up with some friends. Cooked chicken for dinner and had takeaway Kolo Mee from the day before. Today (Thursday) we went back to Fountain Gate and shopped some more. Tomorrow we might go back to Fountain Gate, haha.

Hubby is away this week in Sydney for work, so I don't come home to him not being happy with me because I have shopped too much, hehe.

Micah had his first real haircut today. I gave him a little trim a few weeks ago but it was too hard to try and cut all of his hair because he kept reaching for the scissors. This time, I took him to a Barber Shop at Fountain Gate and paid $16.50 (whoa!) to get his hair cut. His hair was really getting out of control! Very happy with it now though, a lot neater and shorter and he looks young again, like a younger baby. He looks very handsome and cute :)

Hubby will be home late Friday night, I'm sure Micah will be very happy to see his daddy. Not sure what we'll do on Saturday during the day when hubby is back - maybe we will check out a brewery for lunch? We are off to karaoke on Saturday night and then my sister will fly back to Malaysia on Sunday morning.

Life will be back to normal again next week, and I get to rest my SORE FEET!!

Daily Routine at 10 Months

By now, Micah and I have established a pretty solid daily routine. It is not fixed to a specific time everyday, it does depend on what time he wakes up in the morning, but it is pretty accurate within plus/minus 30 minutes. Below is a typical example of what Micah does everyday - this is a typical STAY HOME routine, and we are hardly at home all day these days, but if you substitute the various "Play Time" with Grocery Shopping, Running Errands, Lunch Date, Play Date, Shopping Date, Mums Group, Walking, etc that should work. Whenever I have to go out and do something for a few hours, I normally do it between his morning nap and afternoon nap, and if I somehow go over-time he would usually fall asleep in his pram or in the car and that will count as his afternoon nap.

6.30am: Micah Wakes, Nappy Change
6.40am: Breast Feed
7.00am: Play Time / Time with Dad
8.00am: Breakfast
8.30am: Play Time
9.20am: Nappy Change, Quick Breastfeed
9.30am: Morning Nap
11.30am: Play Time
12.30pm: Lunch
1.00pm: Play Time
2.20pm: Nappy Change, Quick Breastfeed
2.30pm: Afternoon Nap
4.30pm: Play Time
5.30pm: Dinner
6.00pm: Play Time
6.30pm: Bath Time
7.00pm: Time with Dad / Mum Cooks Dinner
7.30pm: Breast Feed
8.00pm: Bed Time

Obviously impromptu nappy changes are required whenever a stinky smell lingers in the air... but I generally like to give him a fresh nappy just before bed, hoping "feeling fresh" would make him more comfortable and sleep better lol.

Notice how there is a "quick breastfeed" just before naps? I know, I probably shouldn't associate sleeping with a milk feed like that but it is so easy to put him to sleep after a milk feed! I know I can break the habit eventually when he's a bit older so I don't want to stress about it too much.

After all, Micah goes to bed wide awake most nights after a feed anyway. He cries for about 2 minutes (most of the time it's really just for a few seconds!) and self settles himself to sleep. So at least I know I am already breaking away from putting him to sleep "fully knocked out" from his milk feeds. He is very good now at self settling and he has been sleeping through the night for the past 6 weeks and I am lovin' it!

To summarise, Micah has two day sleeps of between 1.5 - 2 hours each and he is awake for between 3 - 3.5 hours in between, and he sleeps most nights for about 10-11 hours straight.

During his day naps, that is when I use that time to have a shower, do the dishes, do the laundry, clean the house, relax and watch my TV shows, write my blogs, go on Facebook, etc!

Micah is definitely a foodie and he loves his food. I can take him anywhere with me as long as he has food to keep him happy. He is generally a happy boy anyway and doesn't have an issue sitting in his pram and he hardly ever throws a random tantrum in public, so I guess I am lucky he's one of the good ones. Anyway, as part of his routine here's a list of foods he eats:

Breakfast: 1.5 Weetbix + Mashed Banana

Lunch: 2 slices of Toasted Cheese Sandwich
            Bread with Avocado
Sliced cucumber or tomatoes with roast chicken pieces
with fresh fruit (banana, papaya, grapes, mango are his favorites) or pureed fruit if we're out and about.

Casserole - Chicken / Beef / Lamb / Fish / Pasta with Veggies
with Fresh Fruit / Pureed Fruit / Baby Custard for dessert

Basically, Micah is mostly a happy boy and I am mostly a happy mum. Speaking of happy mum, I should really go and have a shower now that he's down for his morning nap - we have a lunch date at Fountain Gate today!

Week 45: Getting Ready for a Massive Week

Micah and I better get as much sleep as we can this week, because starting this Saturday the whole of next week is going to be a massive, huge, busy, crazy week for us.... because my sister Pearly will be in town!!! She is only in Melbourne for a week, so it will be a crazy week of shopping and going out every single day. We also have a few functions and events happening!

Starting Saturday afternoon at our church Flower Show, followed by Saturday night I'm off to the city to do a Progressive Dinner for one of my Sponsored Blog Post for Kimba's Kitchen, then later that same night I am off to the airport to pick up my sister whose flight arrives in Melbourne at 12.30AM... insane! By the time she gets through customs etc I'm pretty sure it will be close to 3.00am by the time we get home!

Then the very next day we have a BBQ at a friend's place for lunch. Monday shopping. Tuesday shopping. Wednesday shopping. Thursday shopping and family dinner. Friday shopping. Saturday rest then karaoke. And Sunday it all ends when I take my sister back to the airport first thing in the morning.

INSANE! I am exhausted already. Time for bed.

Baby Food Movers by Smash Enterprises

Recently I was introduced to a new range of Baby Food Movers products by Smash Enterprises, the latest eco friendly lunch product range for busy parents on the move. The marketing team representing Smash has asked if I would be interested to review the products, and being a busy mum myself with a hectic social calendar week after week, I thought why not!

I was given a sample of the Food Tub Tray, which I absolutely love because it allows for convenient portion control with its little sized containers. It is very difficult to find small containers with a leak proof lid, and these lids are as leak-proof as they can get! I've stored water (to store in before transferring to a sippy cup to avoid spillage in my bag), and casseroles in these containers and they have not leaked a single drop. The plastic also do not leave a stain.. some low quality containers would have an "after-stain" when storing food like casseroles which has a strong coloured sauce. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe, which ticks all my boxes!

Micah also loves playing with them, and it's in his favorite colour (green) and they are stackable on top of each other which makes playing with them even more fun!

I was also given the Milk Powder Dispenser to sample, but because I fully breastfeed I don't particularly have a need for this product so I am giving it away to a friend. I did, however, test it with what little baby formula I had left in the cupboards (I bought a few sachets of baby formula for convenience for when babysitters are looking after Micah) to see how easy it was to use.

Compared to other typical milk dispensers, which are usually in the shape of a cup with a tiny dispensing lid on top, this design was definitely easier when it comes to actually dispensing the milk powder. The size itself is the exact portion required for one standard milk feed - unlike other milk dispensers which are usually larger is actually storing a lot more milk powder which then requires a separate spoon etc to measure out the exact quantity needed for the bottle. The milk powders comes out smoothly by removing the cap at the bottom of the dispenser.

HOWEVER, I did find it quite challenging to actually put the milk powder INTO the dispenser in the first place. Because it was so narrow, I almost needed a funnel to avoid making a mess! If anything needed to be improved, that would probably be my only thing.

Because of this review, I checked out the Product range by Smash Enterprises and was pleasantly surprised and excited about some of the other stuff they have too, especially their Nude Food Movers range of products, great for kids! You can check out all their products here.

I mean, how CUTE is this Banana Mover? I want one! Maybe even a few! Micah loves his bananas and I always have to pack him a banana in a little zip lock resealable bag which I end up throwing in the bin, and a few of those bags each day is really NOT eco-friendly!!

Week 44: Tis the Season for Walks and a Dance Video

Micah and I went out for a walk today (and we even made a new friend while we were out, but that is a different story) and last night, we went out for a walk together as a family when hubby got home from work. I love daylight savings, because it went we get extra daylight at night so we get to enjoy those family walks. The weather is getting warmer and warmer too, so it is definitely an opportunity to take more steps during the day and try to be healthy by doing lots of walking.

While I've been doing some walking, Micah has been doing some dancing and I managed to get it all on video! So this video is about five minutes of footage of him just going crazy with the bouncing and waving, it is quite amusing to watch and always puts a smile on my face whenever I have a rough day :)

So, Micah is officially 10 months old now and thriving. He continues to sleep well during the night, he sleeps better during the day too (still one sleep in the morning and one in the afternoon of between 1-2 hours each) and he eats his solids very well, loves his toasted sandwiches and especially fresh fruits, he has a veggie and meat casserole for dinner, and occasionally allowed baby custard for dessert. As you can see in the video, he loves his playtime and is a very active and happy kid. I'm a happy mum! He's a great boy :)

Week 43: Summer Days... :-)

Today the temperature is set to soar up to 29 degrees. 29 degrees! For the first time in a long time, Micah went to sleep last night without the heater on (although eventually it got pretty cold later in the night so I got up at 2.30am to turn the heater on for him anyway) and he's been dresssed in cute shorts and T-shirts all week. I am lovin' it! I love seeing him dressed in shorts and T-shirts, makes him look like a little person. Wait, that doesn't make any sense because he IS a little person! Ohh he just looks so CUTE in little clothes full stop.

The start of this week was pretty hectic and busy. We went and visited Leah and the twins on Monday, and then spontaneously booked a lunch at Chadstone on Tuesday. Before we went to Chadstone, I went out for a 40-minute walk and it was quite a sunny day but not as hot as it is today. I felt so unfit going up the hills! At least I did that walk, it made me feel less guilty about indulging in good food the rest of the day. After our delicious lunch at PappaRich Malaysian Restaurant in Chadstone, Micah fell asleep in the car on our way home so I just kept him awake the rest of the afternoon. The plan was to make sure he sleeps so I can go out to my Girls Night that night at Mexican House and have half priced margaritas without worrying about Micah waking up. Well, Micah slept alright and I went out and we had no issues the rest of the night yay!

The weather really started to get warmer and warmer since yesterday. It went right up to 28 degrees yesterday, and Micah and I had lunch out on the deck so he can make as much mess as he wants with his sandwich and the birds can come clean it up afterwards. It was a great idea and I will always eat with him outside now whenever the weather is good so I don't have to clean up! Even for dinner with daylight savings coming up this weekend, there will still be daylight by the time we have dinner so we can eat outside more often. We had the umbrella out yesterday, because the sun was too bright, and Micah just kept looking up to check out the umbrella.

Oh, and I did two loads of washing yesterday and another load today and I AM UP TO DATE! Yayy to the sun making washing so much fun (not!) but at least it is a lot easier and quicker to dry our clothes... now I just need to put away the mountain of clean washing currently piled in the guest bedroom, where my sister would need to sleep in two weeks time when she comes to visit... hhhmmmm....

Because the weather is rather hot today, I choose not to go out haha. I say that now, but I'm sure when Micah wakes up I will be tempted to take him out to the shops or something... I am craving some cake and have debated internally about whether or not we should go out to the shops to get some cake. The heat will make it less tempting... because I don't like getting in a hot car, but hot days are great for going out to the butchers because it is a freezer in Tasman Meats.... not that we're running low on meat in our freezer, we're just running low on the variety of meat in our freezer. I like making sure our freezer has all the different types of meat available for me to choose from whenever I am deciding what to cook. At the moment, we only have chicken and duck. I would love to stock up on some beef ribs, pork, and lamb... just so I have options!!
